Asking for straw due to their overload of animals, The White River Humane Society is at max capacity! My mom recently visited the shelter to drop off some straw when she saw they were in need of donations. She informed me of the current full state of the shelter with a heavy heart.
It brings me such joy knowing there are people out there who are pouring in everything they have to help homeless animals. Giving time, money, a home to animals in need is such a wonderful, selfless act.
But it is also heartbreaking to know there are so many without homes that the shelter has to house some of the pups outside. The positive side is this means the organization is a pro-life organization and therefore, very low-kill.
Here are some ways you can help the pups and kitties of Lawrence County at the shelter:
-Give time: Have some extra hours and want some volunteer work on that resume? The shelter is looking for people to walk and bathe dogs, play with kitties, and help with other miscellaneous tasks.
-Give money: Consider a contribution this holiday season to those animals in need.
-Give donations other than money: straw, toys, litter, cleaning supplies, office supplies, and more.
-Adopt: Have space in your home for an animal in need? Consider fostering or adoption!
-Spread the Word: tell everyone you know about adopting animals and not shopping at pet stores. Additionally, refer them to The White River Humane Society or your local shelter if they are looking to adopt!
-Unique ways to help: Look for uncommon ways to help your local shelter. For example, Lucky’s Market is donating to 3 organizations, currently one of which is The White River Humane Society, just for bringing in and using your own reusable grocery sacks! How easy is that to help out your community?
Kroger/JayC allows you to add an organization, as long as they are registered, to your account and that organization will receive monthly contributions just because you signed up! And yes, you still get all your fuel points and never actually pay out of pocket for the donation! It is an amazing program and you just have to sign up to help (on your online Kroger account under Community Rewards)! I presently am connected to the Nest and per my online account they have received $9 this year from Kroger just due to my grocery shopping (and boy, do I love grocery shopping). Nine dollars may not seem like a lot but imagine if I persuaded 5 or 6 of my closest friends to also sign up…? Every bit counts!
I would like to prompt you to do something to help the animals before the new year. After all, if you are reading this blog post, you either really care about animals or are hoping I will produce another embarrassing video so you can have a laugh this week. Either way, let this be your challenge to help someone, human or animal, in need this season!
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
